On Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016, many Americans awoke like they’d just spent a night of blackout drinking—“What did we do? Did that really just happen?” Unbelievably, Donald Trump had won the election

There will be many books on last year’s insane and tumultuous run to the White House trying to explain the Trump Triumph and how Hillary Clinton was on the one-yard line and lost the ball. None will compare to Election 2016: Democracy in Disarray. It stands out for its facts, irreverence and biting humor.

When distant historians study the 2016 run-up to the White House, they will use many words to describe it. There is a good chance “dumpster fire,” “clown fiesta” and the smiling poop emoji will be among them. But it is important for all Americans to look back at the campaign to try and fathom how someone so incompetent and unstable as Donald Trump managed to defeat Clinton. Granted, he did so with more than a little help from the Kremlin, WikiLeaks and FBI Director James Comey. It is all spelled out in Election 2016: Democracy in Disarray.

The campaign seemed as if it was being waged inside an MTV reality show with some of the wannabes to rule the most powerful country acting as if the way to the Oval Office was to be more outrageous than their opponents. Somehow, it’s hard to imagine Honest Abe boasting about the size of his genitals during the Lincoln-Douglas debates.

Expect insights like “Trump thinks he is infallible. He probably would think he was the second coming of Christ, too, except that Jesus got captured and tortured like that ‘loser’ John McCain.” How the Pant-suited Crusader Hillary Clinton closely paralleled Batman. And what was it about Bernie Sanders that had so many millennials Feeling the Bern?

Not overlooked are all the secondary characters running from Chris Christie to Ben Carson to—the list goes on because so many “delusionals” thought it a good idea to spend tons of money and rack up frequent-flier miles when they had less chance of winning the White House than Mr. Ed winning the Preakness.

Monica Townsend enjoyed living the quiet life of a book editor – but, from the moment she stepped through her office door one evening, everything changed. Kidnapped at gunpoint, she was held hostage at an abandoned warehouse, praying her life would be spared as shots rang through the air.

Police Officer, Chase Travers, was on duty when the call came in. Being the first officer at the scene, he didn’t anticipate the sight awaiting him – three dead men sprawled on the warehouse floor. Upon further inspection of the premises, he discovered a barely conscious Monica Townsend and stayed by her side until the paramedics arrived.

In the hospital later that evening, supposed to be returning home to his wife and two sons, Chase felt prompted to stay at Monica’s bedside to ensure her safety. In the still of the night, a gunshot rang out in the hospital corridor.

Chase and Monica escape and begin running for their lives, but they face an even bigger challenge as they battle an attraction to each other which intensifies as each hour passes. Will they be able to withstand temptation or, in the heat of the moment, after one devastating phone call, will they give in, changing their lives forever?

Publisher: Friesen Press
Published: September 2016
ISBN: 978-1460292433

Genre: Coming of Age
Formats Available For Review: pdf, epub

Who is the mysterious Rudy Kazoody, and what, if anything, did he have to do with the events that occurred to a group of teenagers during one fateful summer in New York City’s Bronx neighborhood in the early 1960s?

Growing up is difficult enough. But when you’re a recent immigrant arriving in a country that is going through its own coming-of-age process, fueled by rock ‘n’ roll, the Civil Rights movement, the Vietnam War, free love, the pill, LSD, and the Cold War, it’s downright confusing, and for some—lethal.

With the various upheavals shaking America to its core, Joey, whose family emigrated to the Bronx from Italy’s Apennine Mountains, struggles to retain his innocent, optimistic outlook on life as he and the other young teenagers on Arthur Avenue—virtually all of whom also come from immigrant, working-class families—try to find their place in this new order.

From the euphoria of first love to the despair of dashed dreams and betrayal, Joey emerges from the summer sadder but wiser in this romantic, mysterious, and nostalgic tale. Behind it all lurks the mysterious Rudy Kazoody, an enigma that Joey feels he must solve or else remain forever just outside the inner circle of life and love.
