Three women. Three generations.
And one sweet lullaby of love.

Meet three women of different ages, backgrounds, sorrows and hopes–women whose lives intersect in an exclusive nursing home called The Hickories:

• Sadie Sparrow is a slightly befuddled, 86-year-old widow who has been abandoned here by her oh-so-busy daughter. But she is settling in just fine, thanks to new friends, a loving staff, a heart full of favorite hymns, and a young Bible teacher who is determined to usher her through the narrow gate to eternal life.

• Meg Vogel is a 58-year-old widow, freelance copywriter and committed atheist who has been hired to write resident biographies. She loves her job, except for all the dreary and offensive God-talk. It’s precisely this thinking that ruined the last months of what had been a perfect marriage.

• Elise Chapelle, 32 and still single, quit her teaching job to care for her beloved grandfather. But in spite of her efforts, his failing health has landed him in The Hickories. Not a likely place for Elise to find the ideal husband, but the Lord has been known to work in mysterious ways.

The Song of Sadie Sparrow is the story of the unlikely bonds these women form—bonds that ultimately change their lives forever.

Christian Murder Mystery – The Actress

The ActressThe Actress–A Christian Murder Mystery
By Michael Hicks Thompson

Published: February 2017

Early 1960s. The most famous actress in America, Talllulah Ivey, is in the Mississippi Delta to film a controversial move. A prominent local citizen is shot and killed outside her bedroom window. A note is found clenched in the dead man’s hand. The note holds the key to Ivey’s guilt or innocence. Was it self-defense? Murder? Or something else? Martha investigates the who, what, and why in this twisty, suspenseful murder mystery, embedded with a Paulinian allegory.

This story could be told only by me—Martha McRae. I’m the publisher and sole writer for the Bethel County Gazette.

I also run a boarding house in Solo, Mississippi. We’re just a dot on a map in the center of the Delta. Land so level and wide you could see the sun rise in the east and set in the west. Cotton and cornfields stretched as far as our eyes could see.

We’d always been a speck of a town–too small for any stop signs, much less a stoplight.

Somehow, Solo seemed to maintain a constant 310 souls. Births replacing deaths.

Deaths. We had more than our fair share three years ago when Satan paid us a visit. You can read about those murders in The Rector.

Here we are again, though, in the land of rich stories and good dirt.

Only this time, there’s a celebrity in our midst.

The Solo series reads like Agatha Christie and C.S. Lewis collaborated on a series of murder mysteries that include theology and an allegory. Think of Aslan in Lewis’s The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. Aslan represents Jesus. Biblical characters in the Solo series are Jesus, Martha, Mary Magdalene, John the Baptist, the Apostle Paul, and Satan.

Ready for adventure in the snowy Colorado mountains, Cecelia Gage is thrilled to be employed as the live-in housekeeper for her favorite bestselling author. The twenty-five-year-old doesn’t count on Mark Andrews being so prickly, nor becoming part of the small town gossip centering on the celebrity. Neither does she expect to become involved in Andrews family drama and a relationship with Simon Lindley, Mark’s oh so good-looking best friend. And certainly, Cecelia has no idea she’ll be mixed up in a murder investigation because of this job.

Will Cecelia’s faith in God get her through all the trouble that lies ahead?
