History & Religion – Pilgrims’ Steps: A Search for Spain’s Santiago and an Examination of his Way

Pilgrims’ Steps: A Search for Spain’s Santiago and an Examination of his WayPilgrim's Steps
by Robert Hodum
Publisher: iUniverse
ISBN: 978-1475940121
Published: September 2012
Pages: 206
Genre: Pilgrimage Studies, History and Religion

Pilgrims’ Steps A Search for Spain’s Santiago and an Examination of his Way offers a deeper understanding of St. James, and his Way, the pilgrimage route to his cathedral in Santiago de Compostela. Galicia’s patron saint and the pilgrimage to his tomb connect the ancient peoples and traditions of Galicia to the pilgrims of the 21st century.

Drawn from biblical and ancient historical accounts, oral histories, contemporary analysis, and current popular reflections, Pilgrims’ Steps examines the saint’s life and times and his connection to the religious and political movements of the 1st century. This work includes an in-depth overview of the origins and history of this region’s ancient cultures and their belief in sacred landscape.

Contemporary pilgrimage along the Way incorporates the ancient sacred routes of Galicia and links prehistoric man, ancient Bronze Age peoples, early Christian pilgrims to today’s pilgrims.

A truly insightful read, Pilgrims’ Steps draws a clear picture of St. James the Greater, the pre-Christian religious traditions of Galicia and the evolution of the medieval Christian pilgrimage tradition along the contemporary Camino de Santaigo, the Way of St. James.

Genre: History, Historical Fiction

Based on factual events, The Adventurers is an action packed book that takes place in the 16th century. And for historical Aficionados who are interested in what triggered ‘The Golden Age of Spanish Literature’, the narrative shows different archaic forms of the language. It was during this era that the transformation of an archaic Spanish language to a national one began to take place. The sequel to this story continues in Always North, and both books are available in print and kindle format.

Historical Memoir – Dad’s Reminiscences, Reveries and Ruminations

Dad’s Reminiscences, Reveries and RuminationsDad's Reminiscences, Reveries and Ruminations
By Henry Frederick Cathcart
Publisher: CreateSpace
ISBN: 9781466291058
Pages: 244
Genre: Memoir/History

“Dad”, son of a Union Civil War soldier, and one of nine children, was born in 1872 on a farm on the great plains of Nebraska. Although Dad was born to be a farmer, he always had an insatiable desire for travel and adventure.

“Dad’s Reminiscences Reveries and Ruminations” was written in 1918 By Henry Frederick Cathcart (“Dad”) while stationed in France during World War one, where he served as a Mess Sergeant. It was there where he acquired the nick-name “Dad” because he was so much older than most of his fellow soldiers.

First published in 1919, “Dad’s Reminiscences, Reveries and Ruminations” includes Dad’s memoirs from early childhood on the Nebraska farm to his Army days in France. They are full of adventure, romance, and tales of sad and happy days from farm life to war in stories told mostly in poetry form that are all true, and give the reader a glimpse into the life of a plain-spoken but gifted storyteller nick-named “Dad”.

From an historical standpoint,”Dad’s Reminiscences, Reveries and Ruminations” shows insight into the first-hand experience, background, and personal life of a WW One soldier who joined the fray at a time when “doing my bit” was considered an admirable undertaking, as it still is for today’s soldier.
