Private Prodigy Eye – Three Books in One

Dead is the New Alive

Sylvie Thomas, 33, gets her chance at detective work when she hires on as assistant P.I. to Adam Clay, a 15-year-old genius. Though she carries the gun and drives the car, her real job is to keep him from winding up over someone’s knee since he irritates almost everyone he meets. When they hire a young man to act as Adam at an award ceremony, someone kills the stand-in Adam. Sylvie and Adam must help catch his own murderer. Adam’s father is shot by a perhaps related sniper shooting before Adam can get back to Dukes County, TX. Blocked by an acting sheriff from helping with the investigation, Adam has to go vigilante and learn to cooperate with others. With a predator on the loose and few clues to follow, Adam and Sylvie know that at any moment they may themselves end up in the killer’s crosshairs.

She Had Me at Hello

Adam Clay’s one redeeming feature has been his cold logic, and reclusive ways, but now his interest in gourmet cooking and a contest run by a dimple-cheeked female host of a cooking show combine with his budding hormones to lure him out into the open, only to have one of the judges drop dead. The recipe was for murder. Sylvie must contend with Adam’s sudden interest in the other gender as well as a murder in her own Texas hometown.

Death Wears Cowgirl Spurs

Adam Clay has often told Sylvie Thomas that nature is something that belongs outdoors. He is far from a happy wrangler when they go to a dude ranch to ride horses across damp and muddy fields after a night of rain. When they come across the body of one of the ranch’s hands, an airfield out at the far corner of the property, and discover the neighbors to the south acting more than a little on the prod, they decide there’s a whole lot of something going on here. They just don’t know what. They also find out that someone wants them to find out no more than they already have, and is willing to kill to make their poking stop.

Formats Available For Review: print (limited quantities, only available to qualified reviewers/bloggers in the U.S.); pdf, epub, mobi

Life is good for Kit Marshall. She’s a staffer in D.C. for a popular senator, and she lives with an adoring beagle and a brainy boyfriend with a trust fund. Then, one morning, Kit arrives at the office early and finds her boss, Senator Langsford, impaled by a stainless steel replica of an Army attack helicopter. Panicked, she pulls the weapon out of his chest and instantly becomes the prime suspect in his murder.

Circumstances back Kit’s claim of innocence, but her photograph has gone viral, and the heat won’t be off until the killer is found. Well-loved though the senator was, suspects abound. Langsford had begun to vote with his conscience, which meant he was often at odds with his party. Not only had the senator decided to quash the ambitions of a major military contractor, but his likely successor is a congressman he trounced in the last election. Then there’s the suspiciously dry-eyed Widow Langsford.

Kit’s tabloid infamy horrifies her boyfriend’s upper-crust family, and it could destroy her career. However, she and her free-spirited friend Meg have a more pressing reason to play sleuth. The police are clueless in more ways than one, and Kit worries that the next task on the killer’s agenda will be to end her life.

Book 1 in the Washington Whodunit series.

When rodeo cowboy Cody O’Brien is found dead in his horse trailer, it appears that his horse, Game Boy, is the culprit. Aimee Machado, health sciences librarian at Timbergate Medical Center, has no reason to doubt the preliminary finding—at first. Cody had been in the hospital awaiting an operation the night he died, but he checked himself out. Had he reason to believe his surgeon, Dr. Phyllis Poole, was incompetent? Or is his death related to his complex relationship with his family? It turns out his father is dying, and four people other than Cody stood to inherit: his young trophy wife Echo, his son James, his daughter Keely, and her fiancé Tucker. How does Dr. Poole fit into all this? Her surgical outcomes have not been the best. Not to mention that Laurie Popejoy, TMC nurse and Poole’s rival in the hospital’s blues combo, disappeared the night of Cody’s death. Aimee is highly motivated to investigate. She once had a crush on Cody’s brother James, who has now set his sights on her. The missing nurse, Laurie, left Aimee a desperate phone message the night she disappeared. Moreover, Aimee’s friend and co-worker Cleo has elicited her help to discredit Dr. Poole. Aimee is already confused romantically. Although it pains her, she is trying to keep Nick, the pilot she loves but does not trust, at arm’s length. But his help proves too invaluable to refuse. Can Aimee ferret out the truth without losing her job and her life? Checked Out is the second book in the Aimee Machado Mystery series, which began with Due for Discard.

Cozy Mystery – Daredevil

DaredevilDaredevil
A Leslie & Belinda Mystery, Book 1
By Linda S. Browning
Publisher: Buddhapuss Ink
Published: January 2015
Genre: Cozy Mystery
Formats Available For Review: kindle (.mobi)

Move over, Miss Marple; step aside, Jessica Fletcher—there’s a new gal on the case, well, two gals, that is. This pair of sassy, senior sleuths, Leslie and Belinda, are on the hunt for a missing girl; and it leads them on a crazy chase through a dark graveyard with Leslie’s eight-pound-dog, Riff-Raff, right in the middle of all the action. Buckle up and keep your hands and feet inside the car at all times; it’s going to be a bumpy ride!

When the granddaughter of a deceased church member goes missing, the two best friends are determined to solve the mystery and rescue the young woman. It seems no one, including the girl’s father, is all that concerned by her vanishing act, but this pair just know something’s amiss. Throw in one wandering bear, a flirtatious undertaker, a dustup with a TBI agent, an overweight corpse, and a trip to the Dollar Store for stakeout supplies and you have all the ingredients for one wild adventure. Sticky situations and comedic antics abound when these meddling senior citizens let their curiosity get the better of them.

“Where others are winding down in retirement, Leslie and Belinda are just getting started. Browning ‘s cozy mystery celebrates the second half of life with humor, delight and wit.” ~ Sam Hilliard, author of the bestseller The Last Track

“Linda Browning has a a voice that is distinct, and fun to read. It lends itself well to the near-slapstick situations that Belinda and Leslie get into. This is cozy mystery at its best!” ~ Mariam Kobras, author of the award-winning Stone Trilogy

“[A] lighthearted cozy mystery with two likable characters, Leslie Barrett and her reluctant-sleuth of a friend, Belinda Honeycutt. Leslie, a retired social worker, is smart and witty, but she has an endearing tendency to holler charge and run in the wrong direction. You could say she has the instincts of Jessica Fletcher from Murder She Wrote and the wherewithal of Barney Fife. She means well, but what can you expect from someone who carries wasp spray as bear repellant?” ~ Linda K. Sienkiewicz, author of the upcoming In the Context of Love

BONUS – Includes award-winning short story NO WAKE
