The action is hot in Kansas City during the 1960s. Gordon Reynolds happens to be a vicious criminal who has served prison time in five different states over a period of twenty-five years. Gordon is determined to muscle his way into major rackets such as prostitution, bootlegging whiskey, robbery, hijacking and contraband cigarettes. He eventually meets up with Alla Mae Briggs. She knows the prostitution racket very well, since she worked the Kansas City streets for several years. She too has a lengthy rap sheet of twenty-five criminal convictions for the solicitation of prostitution. Gordon needs someone to help him operate his main bawdy house.

Alla Mae is the perfect recruit to help him forge stronger relations between his hookers and their customers. The collaboration of their experiences on the streets proves highly profitable. But unforeseen danger causes things to come crashing down all around them. Racist cops, ruthless gangsters, a white supremacist group, jealous pimps and rival hookers are the opposing forces that this interracial couple are destined to face. Crossing the racial line puts them at incredible odds with the law and fellow criminals alike.  Based on the true story of how a white man and a black woman fell in love and broke all the rules in order to make their living together illegally.

“I always thought twenty-five was the year I’d finally be grown up, the year the world would finally start taking me seriously, the year I would finally know what I wanted. And yet…”

The Year I Turned 25 catalogues the ups and downs of a TV reporter in her mid-twenties, who takes on the added challenge of training an adorable, but misbehaving puppy. Sometimes melancholic and other times hilarious, this brave and thought-provoking memoir approaches dating, sexual assault and mental health in a personal, but relatable way. This book is for every woman who ever asked herself if something was wrong with her and for every dog lover who discovered true love in a puppy.

“This project isn’t about – and was never about – figuring out who I am. It’s about figuring out how to figure out who I am.”

Non-Fiction – The Gnostic Notebook

The Gnostic NotebookThe Gnostic Notebook
By Timothy James Lambert
ISBN: 978-1511516495
ASIN: B00TGC9OAA
Genre: Non-Fiction
Formats Available For Review: pdf, mobi, epub

If the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm are nothing more than written records of oral folk tales, how is it that some contain sophisticated forms of encryption?

Why were some fairy tales constructed in accordance with the Ad Herennium, an ancient Latin text containing the earliest recorded instructions for the creation of memory systems?

How does one explain the fact that the Ad Herennium’s instructions mirror one of the key images from the synoptic Gospels, the scourging of Jesus?

Could it be that the Gospels’ authors were actually skilled practitioners of the Art of Memory, who utilized that system within the Gospels for the secret encryption and storage of information?

And how is all of this connected to the millennia-old conflict between the two oldest traditions of Gnostic Christianity, those of John and Thomas?

The Gnostic Notebook is a fresh examination of several classic texts in a search for hidden layers of meaning. The meanings are unlocked through a series of easy to follow steps, using a variety of steganographic and cryptographic techniques. The messages decrypted are not the usual esoteric or Freudian interpretations; rather they contain actual, undeniable information encoded into the texts ages ago. Their existence challenges everything we thought we knew about these texts, including our basic understanding of the Bible itself!

Politics/Government – Election 2016: Democracy in Disarray

On Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016, many Americans awoke like they’d just spent a night of blackout drinking—“What did we do? Did that really just happen?” Unbelievably, Donald Trump had won the election

There will be many books on last year’s insane and tumultuous run to the White House trying to explain the Trump Triumph and how Hillary Clinton was on the one-yard line and lost the ball. None will compare to Election 2016: Democracy in Disarray. It stands out for its facts, irreverence and biting humor.

When distant historians study the 2016 run-up to the White House, they will use many words to describe it. There is a good chance “dumpster fire,” “clown fiesta” and the smiling poop emoji will be among them. But it is important for all Americans to look back at the campaign to try and fathom how someone so incompetent and unstable as Donald Trump managed to defeat Clinton. Granted, he did so with more than a little help from the Kremlin, WikiLeaks and FBI Director James Comey. It is all spelled out in Election 2016: Democracy in Disarray.

The campaign seemed as if it was being waged inside an MTV reality show with some of the wannabes to rule the most powerful country acting as if the way to the Oval Office was to be more outrageous than their opponents. Somehow, it’s hard to imagine Honest Abe boasting about the size of his genitals during the Lincoln-Douglas debates.

Expect insights like “Trump thinks he is infallible. He probably would think he was the second coming of Christ, too, except that Jesus got captured and tortured like that ‘loser’ John McCain.” How the Pant-suited Crusader Hillary Clinton closely paralleled Batman. And what was it about Bernie Sanders that had so many millennials Feeling the Bern?

Not overlooked are all the secondary characters running from Chris Christie to Ben Carson to—the list goes on because so many “delusionals” thought it a good idea to spend tons of money and rack up frequent-flier miles when they had less chance of winning the White House than Mr. Ed winning the Preakness.

Do you want to write fiction, but don’t know how to go about it? Puzzled by creating characters and creating plots? Creating Stories has the answers. Hank Quense, an author of more than twenty books, tells you how to do it. He demystifies fiction writing. Quense believes that stories come from the melding of three creating stories processes: getting ideas, story design and story-telling. Ideas have to come from the author. Creating Stories covers story design and story-telling

The book concentrates on developing characters including such rarely discussed requirements such as a dominant reader emotion and the character’s biography.

Plots are also covered in depth and a number of graphics are included to illustrate complex points. Another topic discusses subplots and how to utilize them and how to nest them within the main plot.

A separate chapter discusses the relationship between the plot and the emotional arcs.

Other topics covered are: character arcs, scene design, point-of-view, writing voice and writing humor.
