This work of feminist fiction has five parts:

I. Epistles: epistles written by Eve, Cain’s wife, Noah’s wife, Delilah, the Queen of Sheba, Mary, and others – as if they were feminist

II. Myths: the myths within the myths revealed – what might Pandora, Circe, Penelope, Eurydice, Persephone, the Gorgons, and others have thought and done if they had not been the creations of a chauvinist patriarchy?

III. Letters: letters that might have been written by Lady Godiva, Milton’s daughter, Rubens’ model, Mozart’s mother, Freud’s wife, Plato’s students, and others – assuming a feminist consciousness

IV. Soliloquies: soliloquies delivered by Juliet, Ophelia, Lady MacBeth, Kate, Desdemona, Regan, Miranda, and others – protesting the role given to them by Shakespeare

V. Fairy Tales: the classic fairy tales retold – what would have happened if Gretel, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and others had been strong and critical girls and women living today?

(Reviewers should note that each of the five sections is available as an ebook; only Satellites Out of Orbit is also available in print.)

Social Issues/Poetry – America Under Mind Control

America Under Mind ControlAmerica Under Mind Control
By Jamell Crouthers
Published: March 2017
ISBN: 978-1543198508
ASIN: B06WD2JBGB
Genre: Social Issues, Poetry
Formats Available For Review: pdf, mobi, epub

What happens when society takes control of your mind and how you think? This book speaks on all of the issues going on in today’s society and how the rich, wealthy and elite do everything in their power to keep the American people under mind control. There are different tactics and ways they use to make sure we as a people don’t strive for greatness in life. It starts from when you’re a child in the education system and how we’re taught to be obedient and to respect authority all the way into Corporate America. Our minds are programmed on a daily basis and whether we realize it or not, we don’t take the time to see the bigger picture of how the world is run. From the music we listen to, to the television we watch, the politics they control and infiltrate, this book deals head on with how we the American people are controlled by so many messages on a daily basis. It’s a book that speaks truth into how this country and the world is in shambles and how we need to come together as a nation and as a people and do better.

Poetry – Waypoints

WaypointsWaypoints
By John Delaney
Publisher: Pleasure Boat Studio
Published: July 2017
ISBN: 978-0912887517
Genre: Poetry
Formats Available For Review: pdf

Far ranging in its geography, Waypoints is a collection of poems that mark the itinerary of a poet wanderer—in matter and mind—over many years. As he acknowledges in his statement about the book, John often writes about places he has been because, like a GPS system, they reflect the ups and downs, turns and twists (tone and tenor), of the mental and emotional life-journey he has been taking. Believing there is no better teacher and no better resource for the imagination than nature, John is most grounded when he is in some remote place, enjoying the challenge it presents and the adventure it becomes.

These poems take the reader to unique locales around the world, from Port Townsend, Washington, where John now lives, to Nepal, Africa, and South America, where he has trekked. In each case, the presence of place informs his themes, such as time, family, and natural world wonder. Placed in the pages’ margins, the addition of latitude/longitude coordinates for the actual settings of the poems adds a more specific geographic level that curious readers may wish to explore on Google Earth. Included with John’s trek to Machu Picchu with his son are the actual photographs he took on their journey that inspired his haiku.

Whether formal or not, with rhyme or without, the poems in this volume will challenge the reader to examine his or her own paths and the stops along them that have made the most impression—questioning how and why such experiences enable us to move forward in a reflective and grateful manner.

Poetry – The Hour Wasp

The Hour WaspThe Hour Wasp
By Jay Sheets
Publisher: April Gloaming Publishing
Release Date: May 28, 2017
ISBN: 978-0988206137
ASIN: B06XS3D71S
Genre: Poetry
Formats Available For Review: Print (limited quantities, only available to qualified reviewers/bloggers in the U.S.), pdf, NetGalley

THE HOUR WASP by Jay Sheets does the unspeakable. It takes you on a journey, in three sections, through morose, sometimes tragic imagery (the ouroboros rinsed in venom / [flickering] the shape of things unshaped // no silken moments / only that which is always breaking / [something is always / breaking here]), and finds itself, in those melancholy moments of the second section some hint of a truth, of a reason, of hope, or a hope (the hour wasp awakens // & we are the things that take shape / & we let the things without shape take shape), and then, finally, we come to the final section, the send-off, the great, all-encompassing display of universal truths, using similar images, visions Mr. Sheets has experienced himself through dreams and meditations, and gives the reader the sense of understanding, almost accomplishment as she has waded through the dark along with the author and illustrator and come to find a sense of solace, one that may stand the test of time (i see the thousandth star / she looks to the thousandth star / the thousandth star is us // & i wonder if i / or anyone i know should be so lucky / & i light a new fire at the end of myself).
