Pages in the Wind reaches inside the mind Emily Quinn, a young girl damaged by trauma, abuse, and family secrets. The book opens with Emily detained at the San Francisco County Jail for the first degree murder of her father. An aging, world-famous psychiatrist is hired to help find mitigating factors to spare her from California’s death penalty.

Can he help her?

The novel re-winds the young girl’s life from the age of eight to nineteen. The doctor quickly becomes sympathetic to Emily and her horrifying childhood. Of particular interest is her bizarre attachment to an old Bloomingdales box filled with drawings of girls she personifies. The doctor and patient develop a tender partnership, weaving through dark family secrets, the unexplained death of her twin sister, rejection by her mother and severe abuse from her father. Together, they sift through tragedy and loss leading to a shocking conclusion that neither saw coming.

Pages in the Wind is a book that dares you to reach inside yourself to understand how abuse and trauma can dramatically affect your identity.

Every day, Daniel Schroeder breaks his father’s heart.

The two of them have always been close, which makes it all the more difficult to break the daily news: the last five years were nothing like Big Dan remembers.

They’re both professionals in the memory field—they even run their own memory palace. So shouldn’t they be able to figure out a way to overwrite the persistent false memory that’s wreaking havoc on both of their lives? Daniel thought he was holding it together, but the situation is sliding out of control. Now even his own equipment has turned against him, reminding him he hasn’t had a date in ages by taunting him with flashes of an elusive man in black that only he can see.

The Elijah character makes no sense. Not only does he claim to be straight—which has never piqued Daniel’s interest—but he’s appearing in manufactured memories in which he’s never been programmed. Is it some quirk of the circuitry, or is Daniel’s desire to connect with someone clouding his own memory?

A novella about a boy named Mick and his struggles with life. His parent’s divorce and a friend’s suicide make his world unbearable. Each “cut” has a deeper meaning. A cry for help.

“I spin my dad’s Ruger SP101 revolver on the wood floor of my bedroom. Sometimes, just to see what it feels like, I place the tip of the gun against my temple, but I never once pull the trigger. NO!”

“I’m more into the slice of the blade against my skin and the blood running down my arm.”

“It relieves so much pressure.”

“And I can breathe again…”
