John Sponcia, like many baby boomers, is aware of how different life is now than how it was back in the 1960s. In “Voiceover…Sanity in the Age of Madness” (ISBN 1461018943), he comments on current events and pop culture that he hopes will entertain, provoke and trigger fellow baby boomers – and today’s generation – to think about America’s condition.
In a multitude of brief chapters, Sponcia covers a variety of topics all pertaining to the current state of the country as well as the world. He discusses events in the worlds of sports, entertainment and pop culture. Sponcia doesn’t back away from controversial topics either as he provides his candid political opinions. While he does discuss serious topics, he tries to keep the work from coming off too solemn by using elements of humor and sarcasm.
Although the audience may not always agree with his points of view, Sponcia attempts to identify with them by providing his personal stories of growing up in the ’60s. Some of his stories are sad while others are more joyful, but he believes that baby boomers will be able to relate to most of his experiences. Sponcia knows that readers will not always agree with his view, but he hopes that by relating to them, he can provoke further thought about the topics and events shaping the state of America today.
“I still believe we live in the greatest nation in the world, but we are not perfect,” Sponcia says.
Sponcia hopes that readers will find his work to be similar to a newspaper’s opinion column in both topics discussed and in style. He hopes that readers will ponder the topics in “Voiceover” while traveling or commuting to and from work as they witness and engage with the world around them.
