Identities, is a satire on corporate greed, global capitalism and materialism and the dangers of building a life around an artificially constructed identity.
After Dave Locke loses his company president job as following a merger, he is forced to do some soul searching. He’s relieved to land a partnership at prestigious Quantum Consulting but unfortunately, this avowed bastion of best business practices turns out to be filled with self-serving technocrats. The partners are obsessed with status and money and clients are given the hard sell on maximizing profits no matter what the long-term costs. (Alas, clients are happy to go along–one CEO wants to relocate his conglomerate to Panama for tax purposes.)
Dave navigates a minefield of office politics and callous management theories while his sons—Alex, a would-be actor who doesn’t want to be defined by his career, and Jim, a workaholic investment banker—debate the spiritual pitfalls of capitalism. As Dave rises through the ranks, he becomes increasingly frustrated and decides to change corporate culture from the inside. His mission sets him on an entertaining collision course with entrenched bureaucracies and office politicians, but he picks his battles carefully and his conviction that business can be both profitable and ethical becomes a believable bottom line.
