Looking Back: From the Times of the Nazis and the Soviets to the World of Today
by Harry Ioachim
Genre: Non-Fiction, Memoir
Format Available For Review: Print and Kindle
The book which I recently published ( Amazon and Kindle ) is entitled:”Looking Back: From the Times of the Nazis and the Soviets to the World of Today” and describes life in Romania where I grew up under the fascist dictatorship of WWII supported by the Nazis followed by the Communist regime imposed by the Soviets. During those years I finished my medical school and advanced to the rank of assistant professor at the University of Bucharest. In 1961 I was able to leave the country and after a time in Paris to immigrate to the US. In New York I built an academic career as a professor at Columbia University and at New York University, chairman of Pathology at Lenox Hill Hospital and internationally recognized medical researcher and author of medical textbooks. I believe that my recollections of those times may be of interest to American readers who are not familiar with events of WWII and its Cold War aftermath particularly in the remote country of Romania where the Jewish population was decimated. The book further talks about the problems of immigration and the life in New York from the turbulent sixties to the present. Also included are discussions about the practice of pathology and medical research in Europe and in our country. The book was highly praised by American readers and by a book reviewer in an Israeli journal.
