Middle Grade/YA Fantasy – Jack Templar Monster Hunter

Jack Templar Monster HunterJack Templar
By Jeff Gunhus
Publisher: Seven Guns Press
ISBN: 978-0988425903
Published: October 2012
Pages: 196
Genre: Middle Grade/YA Fantasy

Orphan Jack Templar has no memory of his parents and only the smallest details from his Aunt Sophie about how they died. The day before Jack’s fourteenth birthday, things start to change for him. At first it’s great: A sudden new strength helps him defend his nose-picking friend “T-Rex” from the school bully, and even his crush, Cindy Adams, takes notice. But then a mysterious girl named Eva arrives and tells him two facts that will change his life forever. First, that he’s the descendent of a long line of monster hunters and he’s destined to be in the family business. Second, that there’s a truce between man and monster that children are off-limits…until their fourteenth birthday! Jack has only one day before hundreds of monsters will descend on his little town of Sunnyvale and try to kill him.

As if that weren’t enough, things get even more complicated when Jack discovers that the Lord of the Creach (as the monsters are collectively known) holds a personal grudge against him and will do anything to see that Jack has a slow and painful death. To stay alive and save his friends, Jack will have to battle werewolves, vampires, harpies, trolls, zombies and more. But perhaps the most dangerous thing he must face is the truth about his past. Why do the other hunters call him the last Templar? Why do they whisper that he may be the “One?” Why do the monsters want him dead so badly? Even as these questions plague him, he quickly discovers survival is his new full-time job and that in the world of monster hunters, nothing is really what it seems.

Conspiracy Thriller – The Moroni Deception

The Moroni DeceptionThe Moroni Deception
By Jack L. Brody
Publisher: Visigoth Press
Published: July 2012
Pages: 242
Genre: Conspiracy thriller

Michael Chenault, award-winning investigative journalist with the New York Times, is rousted in the middle of the night by NYPD detectives and accused of the bizarre murder of a complete stranger. After clearing himself, Chenault finds that Martin Koplanski, the retired history professor he’d been accused of murdering, was likely killed for a mysterious Mormon relic long thought to be just a myth. Twenty-four hours later, Chenault receives an email with a photo of the recently murdered wife of Presidential candidate, Brockston Ratchford. She too appears to have been ritually killed in the exact manner as Koplanski, right down to having the same cryptic character scrawled in blood across her forehead. With way more than just a hunch to now go on, Chenault heads out to Salt Lake City, the site of the Ratchford murder investigation, to find out what, if any, connection there is between the murders.

With the help of a beautiful young reporter he meets along the way, Chenault comes to learn the dark family secrets of a rising political star, along with the rather strange but true history of the Mormon church. As he pieces the story together of what appears to be an ever-growing conspiracy, Chenault is pursued by The Brothers, two murderous zealots who will stop at nothing to retrieve the Mormon relic Chenault is also trying to find. What Chenault eventually discovers is that what he’s uncovered may not only affect the outcome of the next Presidential election, but decide the fate of an entire religion–if he can manage to stay alive.

Body, Mind & Spirit / Inspiration & Personal Growth – Path of Three Hundred

Path of Three HundredPath of Three Hundred
By Greg Frucci
Publisher: CreateSpace
ISBN: 978-1481163156
Published: December 2012
Pages: 166
Genre: Body, Mind & Spirit / Inspiration & Personal Growth

There is no place to “pull over” out there, nor is there anyone to take the helm so that a solo sailor can rest when tired or hungry. On the surface, “Path of Three Hundred” is an open ocean sailing adventure by a human who just wanted to strip away all that was comfortable in Life and challenge himself in a search for Peace and Home.

This Second Edition published on December 11, 2012 is exactly the same story as the First Edition published on August 26, 2012. The only difference is this edition has a black and white interior with fewer illustrations, which is why this edition is much less expensive than the full color First Edition. Upon my return from a solo sailing adventure of almost two thousand miles across open ocean where I single-handed a thirty foot sailboat from Wilmington, North Carolina to Bermuda and back, I began writing “Path of Three Hundred”. If I had taken a direct route there and back, the trip would have been around fifteen hundred miles, but I took the long way home from Bermuda back to Wilmington sailing halfway to the Bahamas before turning west to Florida, then more north back to North Carolina due to weather conditions at sea.
