Poetry about motherhood, womanhood, tragedy and loss, and love by an Appalachian poet who is outspoken against mountain top removal and environmental issues. The poems are not typical of regional poetry consisting of nostalgia for the good ol’ days. Still, extraordinary imagery, often utilizing synesthesia, expresses the unique culture and landscape of the Blue Ridge Mountains as a backdrop for a single mother after being an abused wife fighting to gain her own life back and to provide for her two sons.
