When 38-year old Trudie Parks learns that her high school drama teacher is seriously ill, she immediately contacts her two best friends in high school, Kristen and Mary Ann. Together, they’d been known as “The Christmas Girls.” They’d produced and starred in the annual high school Christmas show, which their teacher, Mrs. Childs, had directed.

Determined to show their love for Mrs. Childs, they plan a 20-year reunion to recreate the Christmas show for her. What they don’t anticipate is the complicated emotions this provokes, as former sweethearts appear and rekindle romance, painful memories and the sting of unrealized dreams. All three women must reassess their lives and their friendships, while struggling to produce the show, even while Mrs. Childs seems to grow weaker by the day.

As Christmas Eve approaches, The Christmas Women prepare for an event that will take them and the audience to the farthest reaches of the human heart and resonate throughout the rest of their lives.

Religious – Halloween, Hallowed is Thy Name

Halloween, Hallowed is Thy NameHalloween
By Rev. Dr. Eddie J. Smith
Publisher: WestBowPress
ISBN: 978-1-4497-5715-1 (sc)
978-1-4497-5717-5 (hc)
978-1-4497-5716-8 (e)
Published: November 2012
Pages: 400
Genre: Religious, Christianity, Halloween, Holiday

Many Christians feel ambivalent about Halloween. Their pastor says it is the Devil’s holiday. Many take their children trick-or-treating but feel guilty about it. Many avoid celebrating the holiday but inwardly feel like they are missing out on something special. Only a few confidently embrace Halloween with all the exciting Christian joy they can muster.

Answering these questions and challenging the traditional status quo is the focus of Halloween, Hallowed Is Thy Name. This book is an in-depth Bible study and theological reflection on how we as citizens of God’s Kingdom should consider October 31st.

In this intriguing work, Dr. Smith delves into the history and tradition of Halloween and our Christian faith and concludes that Halloween is not only permissible and beneficial, according to St. Paul, but evangelistically necessary. Christmas and Easter are the two bookends of our faith and are enthusiastically celebrated by all Christians without debate. Christmas is about the birth of our Savior, and Easter is about Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection. Yet, Halloween is about everything in between Jesus’ birth and death–it is about His life and ministry, His miracles and healing, His victory over death, darkness, disease, evil, demons and Satan.

The principles used in this Bible study can be used to determine other morally questionable issues as well. This book is for everyone who seeks honest answers and diligently searches for God’s Truth. The question is not “should” we celebrate Halloween, but how can we not triumphantly say, “Happy Halloween?”
