Politics/Government – Election 2016: Democracy in Disarray

On Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016, many Americans awoke like they’d just spent a night of blackout drinking—“What did we do? Did that really just happen?” Unbelievably, Donald Trump had won the election

There will be many books on last year’s insane and tumultuous run to the White House trying to explain the Trump Triumph and how Hillary Clinton was on the one-yard line and lost the ball. None will compare to Election 2016: Democracy in Disarray. It stands out for its facts, irreverence and biting humor.

When distant historians study the 2016 run-up to the White House, they will use many words to describe it. There is a good chance “dumpster fire,” “clown fiesta” and the smiling poop emoji will be among them. But it is important for all Americans to look back at the campaign to try and fathom how someone so incompetent and unstable as Donald Trump managed to defeat Clinton. Granted, he did so with more than a little help from the Kremlin, WikiLeaks and FBI Director James Comey. It is all spelled out in Election 2016: Democracy in Disarray.

The campaign seemed as if it was being waged inside an MTV reality show with some of the wannabes to rule the most powerful country acting as if the way to the Oval Office was to be more outrageous than their opponents. Somehow, it’s hard to imagine Honest Abe boasting about the size of his genitals during the Lincoln-Douglas debates.

Expect insights like “Trump thinks he is infallible. He probably would think he was the second coming of Christ, too, except that Jesus got captured and tortured like that ‘loser’ John McCain.” How the Pant-suited Crusader Hillary Clinton closely paralleled Batman. And what was it about Bernie Sanders that had so many millennials Feeling the Bern?

Not overlooked are all the secondary characters running from Chris Christie to Ben Carson to—the list goes on because so many “delusionals” thought it a good idea to spend tons of money and rack up frequent-flier miles when they had less chance of winning the White House than Mr. Ed winning the Preakness.

Crash Course on Critical Thinking.

Then….
Non-partisan analytical examination of Socialism using critical thinking as a guide.

Instead of the redistribution of wealth, socialism is in dire need of a redistribution of ideas. The current ones are not working—not even a little bit. Critical thinking is an exercise that seems to have largely been abandoned in Western politics. Consider this a crash course. The experiment with socialism that began more than a century ago is still well underway throughout the world. From economic crisis in Europe to uncertainty at home, there has never been a better time to have this conversation. As experts in the field of critical thinking, pioneers in non-linear problem solving, and inventors of a comprehensive body of knowledge known as ‘Operational Decision Theory’, Captain Smith and Dr. Lofaro examine socialism in a new way. Throw away the ‘conventional wisdom.’ It’s time for a new paradigm.

Politics/Government – Bible Bullies: How Fundamentalists Got The Good Book So Wrong

Bible Bullies: How Fundamentalists Got The Good Book So WrongBible Bullies
By C. Arthur Ellis, Jr. and Leslie E. Ellis
Publisher: Gadfly Publishing, LLC
ISBN: 978-0982094099
Published: April 2013
Pages: 206
Genre: Politics/Government
Format Available For Review: Print, Nook, Kindle, PDF

Bible Bullies is a controversial new book that explores the nature of a special kind of bully: the kind who use the Bible to force or coerce others into conforming to their beliefs.

The book identifies fourteen personality traits of these bullies, their tactics, and how they misuse the Bible to abuse children and attack identified “out-groups,” including women, the LGBT community, and social programs for the disadvantaged. Six of these personality traits were previously identified in a study, commissioned after World War II by the American Jewish Committee, to try to understand the mind-set of Europeans who supported Hitler’s atrocities.

Chapters discuss misogyny, sexual diversity, child abuse, intelligent design, social programs, and family planning, in the process revealing specific targets of Bible bullies and their misguided use of Scripture in their assault on their victims.

After identifying the salient traits of Bible bullies and how they attack their victims, the book discusses the bullies’ MO—how they operate. Not content with abusing just the victims in their own hometown, the Bible bullies seek to expand their personal power through political means, by arguing against separation of church and state and pushing for an exclusively Christian nation.

The final chapters reveal the crucial rift in the New Testament that laid the groundwork for those seeking to distort the message of peace and love brought by Jesus.
